State of the Industry Corporate Report 2022: How to entice delegates back to live events

Attendees want to experience events in different ways and require the flexibility and convenience of being able to choose.

While businesses are keen to return to face-to-face event formats, in an effort to foster stronger relationships and provide a better ROI for sponsors, delegates aren’t as easy to entice back into a room - with many favouring the new work-from-home culture.

And so as live returns, for some a lack of social contact during the pandemic has imbued these scenarios with additional anxieties - the idea of networking can be a bit daunting for those out of practice. Or for the more introverted individuals that have now found a more favourable way of working, event attendance has always been something they’d prefer to avoid, but never had the option of virtual attendance. But most of the difficulties attracting delegates is likely to stem from the fact that they would prefer not to have to travel and instead attend from the comfort of their own home.

But how difficult is it to get delegates back to live? 36% of respondents said it has become more difficult post-pandemic and 21% said it has stayed the same. Although, perhaps due to virtual fatigue and desire to interact in-person, 29% said it has become easier, with 14% saying it has become much easier.
