The event industry's problem with women

Elly Walsh, Director at I am Recruitment, shares her frustrations with the industry's struggle to accommodate working mothers.

In the world of events, one persistent issue stands out: the obstacles women encounter when re-entering the workforce after having children. A recent LinkedIn post of mine recounted the story of a highly skilled senior candidate overlooked for not one, but three roles due to her need for flexibility—a tale that struck a chord across the industry.

The response to my post wasn't just a few nods of agreement; it sparked a wildfire of discussions across platforms. Women from all corners of the industry came forward with their own tales, each echoing the struggle to find their footing after becoming mothers.

Whether they were Event Managers, Producers, MDs, or educators, the battle to balance work and family life struck a deep chord.
