REX Expo heralds return of events at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

Overcoming the challenges of reopening and managing restrictions while putting on a welcoming event for delegates was the first step back to business, says the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre general manager.

Behind the scenes details of the first public exhibition in Malaysia have been revealed by KLCC’s Alan Pryor after the industry re-opened following the lifting of Movement Control Order restrictions.

It was the first major consumer exhibition in 2021, called Malaysia International Home Renovation and Interior Design (REX Expo) 2021, and was aimed partly at leading the way back to business events and meetings.

The REX Expo, a regular household show at the Centre since 2015, held its first event since the Covid-19 pandemic following multiple postponements.

Additional measures that were in place due to Covid-19 were executed smoothly without disrupting the set-up or the event.

Jeffrey Yang, creative director, Art of Tree, one of the exhibitors said: “There was no long queue for exhibitors or contractors during registration and the security team were extremely strict in ensuring we followed the required procedure and that in itself makes us more confident to be here at the Centre for these three days.”

The event demonstrated how events are being planned for and executed, with health and safety measures in place, alongside stringent operating procedure compliance in the controlled event environment of purpose-built venues.
